Former Timberline and Boise State quarterback commits to another in-state program

A former Boise State quarterback has found a new team, and he isn’t going far from home.

Andy Peters, who once starred at Timberline High School in Boise, announced Monday on Twitter that he has committed to The College of Idaho.

Peters has three years of eligibility left and can play right away for the Yotes because he’s stepping down from Division I football to the NAIA level.

Peters walked on at Boise State in 2020 and appeared in one game as a true freshman — a 51-17 loss to BYU. He didn’t appear in any games last season.

The 6-foot-2, 204-pounder was named 5A Southern Idaho Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a senior at Timberline.

At College of Idaho, Peters will play for head coach Mike Moroski, who took over the program in 2013 after more than a decade at UC Davis. The Yotes finished last season with a 7-3 record and was No. 18 in the NAIA rankings.

College of Idaho finished in a three-way tie with Rocky Mountain and Montana Western for first place in the Frontier Conference but did not make the NAIA playoffs.

Peters is one of three quarterbacks who decided to transfer from Boise State after last season ended.

Former USC QB Jack Sears was the first to announce that he was leaving, in December. He has not committed anywhere for his final season of eligibility. Redshirt freshman Colton Fitzgerald announced in April that he was transferring.

Fitzgerald, who didn’t appear in any games last season and still has four years of eligibility, also has not committed to another program. He has scholarship offers from FCS programs Southeastern Louisiana, Western Illinois and Illinois State.

Senior Hank Bachmeier is the favorite to win the Broncos’ starting job for a fourth year in a row. Redshirt freshmen Taylen Green and Sam Vidlak — a transfer from Oregon State — will head into fall camp in a competition to be No. 2 on the depth chart.

The only other quarterback currently on the roster is redshirt freshman Colt Fulton — a walk-on, who joined the Broncos at the same time as Fitzgerald last summer. Maddux Madsen — an incoming freshman from American Fork High in Utah — is expected to join the team this summer.
