Former South Carolina quarterback transfers to junior college

South Carolina’s quarterback room has grown a bit smaller.

Former walk-on quarterback Jalen Daniels is heading to Garden City Community College after spending one season at USC, it was announced via Twitter on Thursday.

Daniels was a surprise addition to the Gamecocks’ 2022 recruiting class after he joined the program following a standout high school career in California. He was added, at least in part, via his relationship with quarterback Spencer Rattler, with whom he shares a private quarterback coach.

Rated a three-star prospect in the Class of 2022, Daniels did not appear in a game during his brief time in Columbia.

South Carolina’s quarterback room has grown in size the last two recruiting cycles. Rattler returns for one more year, while 2021 starter Luke Doty is back in the fold. The Gamecocks also have Colten Gauthier, Braden Davis, Tanner Bailey and 2023 signee LaNorris Sellers among their scholarship quarterbacks.

Shane Beamer’s squad has already landed a 2024 quarterback commit, too, in four-star passer Dante Reno out of Massachusetts.
