All flights inbound to DFW Airport, Love Field held at origins as ice storm strikes

All flights that were inbound to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field were held at their origin cities for a time early Tuesday as freezing rain spoiled travel in North Texas.

The air traffic procedure was in place at DFW until 10 a.m. and, at Love Field, until 10:15 a.m., according to flightaware.com.

At DFW Airport, 527 flights were canceled between about 9:30 a.m. Monday and about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Flight Aware. At Love Field, 242 flights were canceled during that period.

Flights headed to DFW were delayed at their origin an average of four hours and 42 minutes.

Representatives of both airports advised travelers to check with airlines before driving to the airport.

American, based in Fort Worth, was waiving for customers traveling to, through or from DFW Airport a fee it typically charges to change a ticket.

Freezing rain and sleet are forecast in the region through Thursday morning.
