Five finalists announced for prestigious SC Mr. Football award

The finalists for South Carolina’s Mr. Football were announced on Wednesday.

The finalists are Gray Collegiate running back KZ Adams, Northwestern quarterback Will Mattison, Daniel quarterback Trent Pearman, Myrtle Beach receiver Adam Randall and Hilton Head Island linebacker Jaylen Sneed.

The finalists were announced on Wednesday’s Sports Talk Radio show.

Mr. Football is an honor given to the top public school high school football senior football player in the state and based on performance on and off the field. The winner will be announced at halftime of the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives North-South All-Star game in Myrtle Beach on Dec. 11.

Gaffney’s Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins won the award last year.

A look at the five finalists in alphabetical order:

KZ Adams, RB, Gray Collegiate: Four-year starter at running back for the War Eagles and one of the most dynamic running backs in the state. Adams has 1,630 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns this season and has rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his four years at Gray. Adams is committed to play at Georgia State.

Will Mattison, QB Northwestern: Mattison has thrown for 2,130 yards and 30 touchdowns in leading the Trojans to Region 5-5A championship. He has almost 4,000 passing yards in his career and is uncommitted.

Trent Pearman, QB, Daniel: The SC 2020 Gatorade Player of the Year is 18-0 as a starting quarterback and led the Lions to the Class 3A championship last year. Pearman has 4,813 yards passing and 61 touchdown passes. He is uncommitted and his father, Danny, is Director of Scouting at Clemson.

Adam Randall, WR, Myrtle Beach: Randall has 2,532 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns in 25 varsity games for the Seahawks. He is committed to Clemson and is ranked as the No. 3 prospect in SC by 247SportsComposite. Randall also has been selected to play in the Under Armour All-American Game.

Jaylen Sneed, LB, Hilton Head Island: Sneed is the No. 1 ranked prospect in South Carolina by 247Sports and committed to play at Notre Dame. Sneed also has seen a lot of time this season as the team’s quarterback. For the year, Sneed has 87 tackles, six for loss on defense and has 696 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on offense. He also was selected to play in the Under Armour All-American game.
