Germany's DAX closes above 20,000 mark; France's no-confidence vote eyed
(Reuters) -European closed at a fresh one-month high on Wednesday, with German stocks finishing above the 20,000 mark, while attention was on France where a no-confidence vote in parliament was likely oust Prime Minister Michel Barnier's government. France's CAC 40 closed up 0.6% as the debate on the no-confidence motion was underway ahead of the vote due around 1830-1900 GMT. Barnier's three-month old fragile government is expected to be forced out at a time when the country is struggling to tame a massive budget deficit, and French President Emmanuel Macron said he aims to install a new prime minister quickly if his government falls.

At age 40, Lindsey Vonn is going to enter an official ski race for the first time in nearly six years this weekend. Having already announced last month that she was coming out of retirement, Vonn will race lower-level FIS downhills and super-Gs on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, in Copper Mountain, Colorado, U.S. Ski Team head coach Paul Kristofic told The Associated Press. Vonn needs some decent results to improve her long-dormant ranking so she can enter World Cup races this season under a new wild card rule.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Advisers to Donald Trump publicly and privately are floating proposals to end the Ukraine war that would cede large parts of the country to Russia for the foreseeable future, according to a Reuters analysis of their statements and interviews with several people close to the U.S. president-elect. The proposals by three key advisers, including Trump's incoming Russia-Ukraine envoy, retired Army Lieutenant-General Keith Kellogg, share some elements, including taking NATO membership for Ukraine off the table. Trump's advisers would try forcing Moscow and Kyiv into negotiations with carrots and sticks, including halting military aid to Kyiv unless it agrees to talk but boosting assistance if Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses.

SEOUL (Reuters) -South Korea's parliament formally introduced a motion on Thursday to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over a botched attempt to impose martial law, but his party vowed to oppose the move, throwing the process into doubt. Yoon's ruling People Power Party said it would oppose it but the party has been divided over the crisis. The opposition Democratic Party, which has a majority in parliament, needs at least eight ruling party lawmakers to back the bill in order for it to pass.
