The first trailer for Idina Menzel and Adam Sandler's new Netflix comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah has arrived.

The movie, which also stars Sandler's real-life wife Jackie and their children Sadie and Sunny, follows the story of young girl Stacy Friedman as she prepares for her bat mitzvah.

However, her plans for her big day come undone when she catches her best friend kissing her crush Andy Goldfarb.

The first trailer gives a tease of the comedy to come, as Stacy goes into meltdown and starts to spread rumours about her friend after the betrayal. There's also a big row between Stacy and her dad (Sandler) over a mojito bar that goes quite overboard.

Also set to star in the movie are Luis Guzmán, Ido Mosseri, and Saturday Night Live's Sarah Sherman, as well as Samantha Lorraine, Dylan Hoffman, Dean Scott Vazquez, Miya Cech, Ivory Baker, Dylan Dash, Millie Thorpe and Zaara Kuttemperoor.

The film – which is due out later this month – is based on Fiona Rosenbloom's coming-of-age novel You Are SO Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah!, with Work It's Alison Peck adapting the screenplay and Crush's Sammi Cohen directing.

The movie also acts as a reunion between Sandler and Menzel, who previously worked together on Uncut Gems, and is touted as the latest entry in Netflix's ongoing 'Sandlerverse'.

The last movie, Murder Mystery 2, was released earlier this year and saw Sandler reunite with co-star Jennifer Aniston after 2019's Murder Mystery.

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is set to stream on Netflix from August 25.
