A new trailer has been released for Jodie Comer's film, also starring Line of Duty’s Gina McKee.

The End We Start From is described as a "hopeful story about the trials and joys of new motherhood in the midst of devastating floods that swallow up the city of London", and stars Killing Eve’s Comer as a woman trying to navigate this new stage of her life while escaping natural disaster.

Based on Megan Hunter’s dystopian novel of the same name, the film marks director Mahalia Belo’s debut feature, and it is written by Succession and Normal People writer Alice Birch.

A short teaser was released back in September, but now a more in-depth new trailer shows Comer’s character meeting, falling in love and starting a family with a man (Joel Fry), before they are plunged into chaos and separated by the climate-related crisis.

A lot of the plot remains a mystery, but within the striking new clip we see water crashing through a window, large crowds trying to escape the danger, and a board full of photos of missing people – giving an idea of the devastation faced by the characters in the film.

Alongside Comer, McKee and Fry, The End We Start From has an all-star British cast, with familiar faces including Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong, Katherine Waterston and Nina Sosanya.

The synopsis reads: "When an environmental crisis sees London submerged by flood waters, a young family is torn apart in the chaos. As a woman and her newborn try and find their way home, the profound novelty of motherhood is brought into sharp focus in this intimate and poetic portrayal of family survival."

The film, releasing early next year, has already received critical acclaim, with nine nominations at the British Independent Film Awards, including nods for both Comer and Waterston.

The End We Start From will be released in UK cinemas on January 19, 2024.
