A first look at Doctor Who star Arthur Darvill's new movie And Mrs has been unveiled.

The romcom, which is due to screen at the Edinburgh International Film Festival next month, focuses on a woman called Gemma (Doctor Who's Aisling Bea) who decides to marry her fiancé (Colin Hanks) despite him dying before their wedding day.

Her choice faces a huge number of obstacles, including legal challenges, family objections and public opinion.

A few stills from the movie have now been released, including Darvill's character shouting passionately accompanied by a "love on trial" sign, as well as Bea and Hanks in character.

And Mrs also stars Taskmaster's Susan Wokoma, American Horror Story's Billie Lourd, Downton Abbey's Elizabeth McGovern and Succession's Harriet Walter, while Daniel Reisinger has directed the project.

Darvill is perhaps best known for playing companion Rory Williams on Doctor Who between 2010 and 2012.

Last year, the actor admitted that if he could have changed anything on the BBC show, he would have liked to have had more dialogue.

"There were some episodes where I did just end up standing in the background nodding, so I would have given myself more lines!" he told Radio Times.

"But no, [I wouldn't change anything], those bits actually just helped his character arc because he ended up being a bit of a third wheel at times and then he had to really prove himself. I think it's a pretty perfect story arc, I've got no regrets really, which is really rare.

"I haven't seen it for years – maybe I should just watch them all again. I just look back on it with such fondness and I think his arc of having to step up and being a Roman soldier and wait for 2000 years, it's such a great thing as an actor to be able to do.

"I'll obviously never get the chance to do anything like that ever again. I wouldn't change a thing," Darvill added.

And Mrs is yet to confirm a cinema release date.
