First Dates offers magic pairing in Harry Potter fans

From Digital Spy

Channel 4's First Dates gifted viewers with a truly adorable first date on tonight's show (May 24), by matching up two of the biggest Harry Potter fans they could find.

Which, naturally, meant viewers were instantly rooting for them to become the next Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley.

Claudia was the first singleton introduced and it wasn't long before she was showing off her Harry Potter tattoos, including the Hogwarts crest on her upper arm, her Gryffindor phone cover, and Hogwarts-themed card wallet.

"My perfect man would be a bit like Ron," she explained. "I've spent many a time pretending to be a wizard, to create a perfect man."

Thankfully, the show matched her up with 25-year-old Jack, who describes Harry Potter as his "childhood" and compares himself to Ron Weasley.

And when the couple met, it wasn't long before they both instantly hit on their mutual love for the Harry Potter series either, with Jack clocking the Harry Potter tattoo on Claudia's arm and pointing out the several themed tattoos he also has.

So far, so good, then.

Speaking about her strict upbringing, Claudia opened up about why Harry Potter means so much to her, explaining that the books "saved" her, providing her with an escape when she was in the throes of "teenage angst" and rebellion.

"I honestly think Harry Potter has saved me, and made me a way better person," she said. "I could just open that book and, honestly, within minutes I was at Hogwarts and that, honestly, is one of the most important things in my life."

So it looks like the First Dates restaurant pulled off a little magic of their own with this pairing, and viewers were instantly hopeful that they could go the distance:

Unfortunately, the date appeared to take a bit of a turn with Claudia opting to play on her phone and "Snapchat [her] many fans", leaving Jack feeling a little bewildered at her change in behaviour.

"I thought at first it was going alright, then I don't really know what happened, if I'm honest," he said. "I don't know whether it was alcohol, whether it was just nerves, or whether it was her way of saying she'd had enough."

Still, Jack added that he didn't regret anything, and at least he found someone who loved Harry Potter just as much as he did.

First Dates continues next Thursday (May 31) at 10pm on Channel 4.
