A new Firehouse Subs is coming to this bustling area near downtown Columbia

A popular national sandwich chain has a new location coming to Cayce.

Firehouse Subs plans to open a shop at 542 Knox Abbott Drive. There is a new sign for the business at the location, and it listed as “coming soon” on the Firehouse Subs website.

There is not an opening date provided on the Firehouse website. There were workers at the location on Thursday morning painting the outside of the building. The building was formerly home to Vacuum Center, which moved to 1306 Charleston Highway.

The Firehouse Subs spot will be coming to a corridor across the river from downtown Columbia that is rife with commercial businesses. Other restaurants nearby include Lizard’s Thicket, Sub Station II, Taco Bell, Zaxby’s, Wendy’s, Dunkin’ Donuts and others. The coming Firehouse location will be across the street from Brookland-Cayce High School’s gymnasium.

There are dozens of Firehouse Subs locations across South Carolina, including several in the Columbia and Lexington areas. The company is known for its hot sandwiches with names that are a nod to firefighting, such as the Hook and Ladder, which comes with smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham, melted Monterey Jack cheese, mayo, deli mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a kosher dill pickle on the side.
