Firefighters Battle Bejis Wildfire in Southern Spain

Firefighters battled through the night, attempting to contain the Bejis Fire burning in the Castellon region of Spain on Wednesday, August 17.

Footage published early on Wednesday shows firefighters working near roads and structures to contain the flames.

The Spanish Military Emergency Unit wrote that it had been an “intense” night, with firefighters working on defending “sensitive” points and evacuating people endangered by the flames.

The Bejis Fire had grown to more than 13,000 hectares (about 50 square miles) by Thursday, according to local media. Credit: @UMEgob via Storyful

U.S. economic growth in the first quarter fell below the Federal Reserve's estimates of the economy's long-run potential for the first time in nearly two years, but the signs of slowing were accompanied with fast inflation that, if sustained, would pose a particular dilemma for the central bank.
