Firefighter found dead after he was last seen running toward desert, AZ cops say

A 38-year-old firefighter was found dead after he was last seen running into the Arizona desert from a Walmart parking lot, police and park officials said.

Patrick Gladics’ body was discovered before 12:30 p.m. May 17 in a desert area near a Walmart in Sierra Vista, the Sierra Vista Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Gladics, a firefighter and helicopter manager for the Bureau of Land Management in Nevada, was first reported missing on May 14, the Coronado National Forest said.

Authorities found his white 2016 Ford Explorer in a Walmart parking lot. When they checked surveillance videos, they saw him running toward the desert around 5 a.m., police said.

A rescue helicopter helped locate his body three days after he went missing, police said.

The Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.
