Yahoo Movies The Ferrari SP51 Is a One-Off 812 GTS Roadster
Ferrari's Special Projects team has been busy over the past decade, building a wide variety of one-offs and few-offs for the company's most valuable customers. Their latest is a roofless take on the 812 GTS spider, taking the front-engined, V-12 super-GT from convertible to true roadster.
Called the SP51, the car's unique styling further separates it from the standard open-air 812s of the world. Unique headlights, wheels, and paint highlight a car designed to be special first and foremost. Over the top of that one-of-one "Rosso Passionale" base color, the car's blue and white stripe pays tribute to the 1955 Ferrari 410 S sports car racer. With no need to actually store a roof, the roll bars are adorned with 599-like flying buttresses and a black mounted wing mounted where a Targa bar would go on a car with a manually removable top.
Like all 812-based cars, the Ferrari SP51 is defined by its front-mounted, naturally-aspirated V-12. While this is the company's first one-off roadster on the 812 platform, the Special Projects team previously built the SP3JC one-off roadster around its predecessor, the F12tdf. The company also built the SP1 and SP2 Monza, two limited-production 812 variants that went one step further and removed the windscreen in addition to any sort of permanent or convertible roof.
The car was completed for a buyer based in Taiwan, referred to by Ferrari as "one of our leading collectors." The company says a Special Projects one-off takes two years on average to complete, so they have likely been waiting on the unique car for quite some time.
