CBS has confirmed that Bull won't be continuing beyond its sixth season.

Starring NCIS alum Michael Weatherly, the legal drama – which premiered back in September 2016 – follows Dr. Jason Bull, a psychologist and trial-science expert, as well as his colleagues at his jury consulting firm, Trial Analysis Corporation (TAC).

There, the gang assemble teams of jurors who are most likely to side with their lawyer clients, and determine which strategies the solicitors should use in the courtroom to get the best results with each group.

"It's been my privilege to play Dr Jason Bull but after 6 seasons of incredible storylines, I've decided it's time to pursue new creative challenges and bring his story to a close," Weatherly wrote on Twitter yesterday (January 18).

"It has been an honor to work with this talented cast, crew, and writing/producing team who helped reinvent the legal drama. Stay tuned for a big series finish… Thanks to all the fans from the bottom of my heart. You will always be a part of our Bull family!"

"For six seasons, Bull has established itself as a ratings winner with its fresh take on the judicial process never before seen on television," CBS said in a statement around the same time.

"We extend our thanks to the talented cast, Michael Weatherly, Geneva Carr, Yara Martinez, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Christopher Jackson, MacKenzie Meehan, the incredible creative team led by Kathryn Price and Nichole Millard, and our hard working crew, for bringing to life these innovative stories.

"We also thank our loyal viewers and look forward to providing them with a final run of compelling episodes filled with the humor, intelligence and twists that have made the drama a fan favorite."

Bull became the subject of controversy back in 2018 when former star Eliza Dushku publicly accused Weatherly of inappropriate behaviour, which he later apologised for, saying that he was "mortified to have offended her". It later emerged that CBS paid her a $9.5 million settlement following her complaint that she was written off the show after confronting its lead.

Prior to season six, it was confirmed that Benny Colón actor Freddy Rodriguez and showrunner Glenn Gordon Caron had exited the project, following an investigation into the latter's workplace ethic.

Bull season 6 airs Thursdays on CBS in the US. The show airs on Fox in the UK but there is currently no release date for the new season.
