How fast are California gas prices going down? See dramatic drop across the state

While holiday travel ramps up, there could be some relief at the gas pump.

Prices are inching their way down in several California counties and across the state.

As of Wednesday, the statewide average, according to the American Automobile Association, is about $4.67. Last month, the average for regular fuel was $5.46. That said, the national average is $3.36, which means if you’re traveling to California from out of state, still expect to pay a pretty penny for gas.

Some of the state’s biggest metro areas are seeing the same trend.

Sacramento County’s regular gas average is $4.45, down from last month’s $5.26. Napa is $5.03, down from $5.61; Los Angeles-Long Beach is $4.76, down from $5.52; and Orange County is $4.62, down from $5.42.

Whether prices will continue to drop is uncertain.

“Gas prices are dropping sharply and are only a nickel more per gallon than a year ago,” said AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross in a news release release. “But with oil being the main ingredient in gasoline, OPEC+’s move could slow this decline. However, the gas price will likely soon be lower than it was a year ago.”
