Fantastic Four star Joseph Quinn says he has "big boots" to fill after Chris Evans

The Fantastic Four star Joseph Quinn has admitted he has "big boots" to fill from Chris Evans.

The Stranger Things star was recently announced to be joining the Marvel franchise as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch alongside Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/the Thing.

Evans – who later went on to play Captain America in the MCU – famously played the Human Torch in two Fantastic Four movies in the 2000s, and Quinn has shared his praise for his predecessor in a new interview.

"I remember really enjoying Chris Evans's performance as Johnny in the previous films, and it felt like this would be a really exciting opportunity," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I was absolutely signed up."

However, the star said he didn’t have Evans's version in mind when he auditioned, admitting: "No. I mean, you're going to make it your own," though he added he will have "big boots" to fill.

Quinn also spoke about going for the role, recalling: "I knew that they'd been talking about making the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Universe for a while.

"I had a talk with [director] Matt [Shakman], and it was very clear with the kind of people who they were attaching to it what they were trying to do with it. There are aspects of it that are very much a singular thing and its own thing."

He also praised his co-stars, declaring: "Working with Vanessa, Pedro, Ebon – they're really consummate pros and brilliant in everything they're in. So I'm really looking forward to establishing this familial dynamic with them and with Matt Shakman's guidance."

Meanwhile, earlier this month it was confirmed that Ozark star Julia Garner had joined the movie as the Shalla-Bal incarnation of the Silver Surfer.

The Fantastic Four will be released on July 25, 2025.
