Fantastic Beasts 2 will be set in Paris

‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is coming to cinemas this month and already there’s plenty of talk surrounding its sequel.

This month’s Empire is dedicated to the J.K. Rowling-written movie and reveals some interesting detailed about what fans could see in the second film.

“What we do know is that the already-underway sequel will travel to Paris,” it states.

According to a previous Q&A, Digital Spy recall the details director David Yates revealed about the next big destination. And it appears it’ll predominately be in Paris, with this first happening in 1920s New York, before being whisked away to Europe.

“We next see Newt in another big capital city. It’s not going to be New York. It’s somewhere else entirely. [J.K. Rowling] has actually written the script and it’s just as magical and just as marvellous as the first one – but very different.”

Yates also tells Empire that the follow-up is “quite ambitious” and considering we still don’t really know much about the plot or indeed outcome of this first film, it’s safe to say there must be something that drags our protagonist - presumably it’ll still be Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander - all the way to France.

‘Fantastic Beasts’ has been in the headlines this week, specifically with the news that Johnny Depp will feature in the sequel, meaning there’s a possibility he could turn up (in some capacity) in the upcoming one. Controversially, with his domestic abuse allegations splattered all over the news, the idea of Depp being a part of the Harry Potter extended universe is proving hugely divisive amongst audiences.

The first ‘Harry Potter’ spin-off stars Redmayne and has an all-star cast, including Colin Farrell, Jon Voight, Ezra Miller, Zoe Kravitz, Ron Perlman, and Samantha Morton. It’s also the first occasion where Rowling has penned the screenplay rather than have her literary tale adapted.
