Family of missing Kansas man ‘desperate’ for answers after sudden disappearance

Family of a 24-year-old Junction City man thought to be missing for one week say they are “desperate” for answers as they try to locate him.

Jordaline Infante and Madeline Familia, his cousins, told The Star on Monday that Familia was last in contact by phone on March 19. On Monday, as his second daughter turned two years old, he did not call, Infante said, another sign of worry as he normally keeps up with family from afar through social media and other contact. They live in New York, Florida and Puerto Rico.

Familia moved to Junction City in northeastern Kansas as he was with the National Guard stationed at Fort Riley, Infante said.

In his last contact with family, they say Familia used distressing language and exhibited signs of being in a state of delusion or paranoia, possibly stemming from post-traumatic stress disorder. He also used cryptic language suggesting he might be dead if no one hears from him, Infante said, prompting additional concern.

Over the past few days, they say the family has contacted every hospital in Kansas and looked through arrest reports in hopes that Familia is well but unable to contact them. They’ve also been in contact with police in Junction City, Infante said, and discovered that he was apparently not staying in his apartment any longer.

Infante said her family has had difficulty getting a missing person report completed with Junction City police as the family lives out-of-state. She said her aunt would be making the 21-hour drive from Florida to meet with police in the effort to find Familia.

“She is desperate for answers and just wanting some hope,” Infante said, adding: “We just want to get his case out there because someone somewhere may know something that we don’t know, and I’m hoping that this reaches them and ultimately just brings him home.”
