Channel 4 premiered the first episode of its new dating show A Year to Fall in Love tonight (June 19).

The show follows 20 people as they try to find The One within 365 days, be it through dating apps or the old-fashioned way.

Unlike other reality shows like First Dates or even something like Streetmate, it wasn't filmed like a traditional TV programme. The contestants actually film themselves and the footage is edited together with a few standard location shots inbetween. Basically, it felt like it was jumping between four of five different vlogs across an hour.

The show didn't really connect with viewers, whether it was the format, the people involved or some combination of both.

Those who did stick with the show after the first ad break found that one hopeful Nick was incredibly cringeworthy in his attempts to chat to a girl he met on a night out.

The woman in question gave him her friend's number rather than her own (an obvious giveaway they aren't interested). After he tracked her down on Facebook and messaged her to no reply, he actually called her friend and asked her to pass on his number!

Channel 4 are only airing the one episode of A Year to Fall in Love on TV, and the rest of the episodes are all available on All4 now.
