Everything You Need To Know About Avengers: Infinity War

As Marvel continue to dominate the box office and impress fans with their movies, the film on everyone’s lips has to be the one that brings everything we’ve seen thus far to a head: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

Even though it is still a couple of years away, the Russos (’Captain America: Civil War’) are about to begin filming, so here’s everything we know about it so far.

What’s the story?

Essentially every Avengers movie and solo outing over the past decade has lead to this point in the MCU timeline. It’s the ultimate showdown between the Avengers and super villain Thanos - the scary-looking mad Titan we’ve seen in various moments throughout Marvel movies, most prominently in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and significantly in ‘Age of Ultron’.

He’s spent his time collecting the precious Infinity Stones which, when harnessed through his Infinity Gauntlet, will give him unimaginable powers and will allow him to wipe out life wherever he sees fit.

Over the course of Phase One, Two, and Three, Thanos has been quietly going about his business of acquiring said stones in order to bring about the destruction of all living life in the universe, which is something the Avengers on Earth likely won’t be best pleased about.

With plot specifics tightly under wraps, it is known that everything we’ve seen regarding the Avengers and their respective stories is building to this story where they finally face the alien warlord and bring his tyranny to an end.

The film takes its name from a 1992 comic series that incidentally is a follow-up to a ‘91 series called ‘The Infinity Gauntlet’.

Who’s in it?

So far the cast list is very much incomplete. What we do know is that Josh Brolin will feature as he plays the role of Thanos, as will our regular Avengers Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

However, it’s being lined up as the ultimate Marvel movie with the biggest gathering of heroes there’s ever been, which means it’s going to have to top the enormous cast of ‘Civil War’. Chris Pratt is rumoured to appear, which implies that Star-Lord (the character he plays) will show up with the Guardians of the Galaxy, which frankly would be amazing.

There’s also the question of how the likes of Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and even newcomers Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) will feature, if at all. But fear not, because it was only at the beginning of 2016 when the Russos claimed that up to 67 characters could be in this, which would be epic beyond anything we’ve seen before.

Why should we be excited?

Well, to summarise the above, the potential of a humongous cast means we could see all sorts of heroes emerges, from the Guardians of the Galaxy to anything Marvel have conceived over the past decade, even meaning that there could be some sort of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. involvement.

It’s the culmination of years of storylines and progression that will, for all intents and purposes, lead to the climax of this film and likely spill over into the fourth Avengers movie the Russos are also helming.

In short, ‘Infinity War’ will be the biggest and best Marvel spectacle ever made. So no pressure, then.

When is it out?

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is heading to UK cinemas on 27 April, 2018, with what’s currently branded as ‘Avengers 4′ due out the following year.
