Everything you need to know about the ‘girl-splaining’ meme

There’s mansplaining and there’s bro-splaining… But are you familiar with the “girl-splaining” meme?

How to avoid panic buying in an ultra-competitive housing market

The idea behind “girl-splaining” is that women can also be loud and overzealous about seemingly random things. And it’s women who have embraced the meme, roasting some of their more stereotypical or niche passions.

Watch this Brooklyn bedroom go from drab to fabulous in one day:

It all started after the translation of a 2019 Spanish-language meme into English. In the photo, a woman at a music festival is shouting into a guy’s ear. The original Spanish meme caption was her warning him to stay away from Herbalife (an alleged multilevel marketing scheme in the U.S. that frequently targets Latinos).

Now women on Twitter are using the meme to proudly discuss their unique interests.

“EVEN THOUGH THE PIECE OF DEBRIS IS PHYSICALLY LARGE ENOUGH FOR BOTH JACK AND ROSE, IT IS VERY CLEAR WHEN HE TRIES TO CLIMB UP THAT IT’S NOT BUOYANT ENOUGH WHICH IS THE REAL PROBLEM. FURTHERMORE HIS SACRIFICE ON BEHALF OF THE WOMAN HE LOVES IS AN IMPORTANT CHARACTER MOMENT FOR A M,” @kateyrich wrote on Twitter, arguing the physics of Jack’s death in Titanic.

“EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER WORN WAS SEWN BY HUMAN BEINGS BECAUSE ROBOTS DON’T MAKE YOUR CLOTHES AND THERE WILL NEVER BE ROBOTS THAT MAKE YOUR CLOTHES BECAUSE IF WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE COMPUTERS THAT ARE THAT GOOD, WE’D BE SO TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED THE WORLD WOULD BE UNRECOGNIZABLE,” @lingerie_addict wrote in a passionately worded tweet.

“STREAMING ONLY CREATES THE ILLUSION OF INFINITE CHOICE, IN FACT OUR ACCESS TO FILMS HASN’T BEEN THIS TENUOUS SINCE THE PRE-HOME VIDEO ERA. THE AVERAGE BLOCKBUSTER CARRIED ABOUT 3X AS MANY FILMS AS ARE CURRENTLY STREAMING ON NETFLIX, PHYSICAL MEDIA IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EV-,” @thathagengrrl said on Twitter.
