A near-nationwide blackout in Chile led to the shutdown of the metro system in Santiago on Tuesday, February 25.Footage from X user @sir_emm shows the darkened La Cisterna metro platform on Tuesday just a few minutes after the power went out.Millions of people were left without electricity and Chile’s disaster management agency, Senapred, called it a “massive power outage.”Metro Santiago said all services had been suspended due to the power outage, and teams were deployed to all stations to assist with safe evacuations.According to the National Electrical Coordinator, the blackout was caused by the “disconnection of the 500 kV transmission system” in the Norte Chico region.
