Event cancellations, venue changes and more as the Triangle recovers from Ian

Tropical Storm Ian has left the Triangle behind, but a number of highly anticipated events have been canceled or are heading indoors.

Cancellations & event changes

IBMA Bluegrass Festival: The multi-day outdoor music festival is making some changes due to weather. While usually held in the streets of downtown Raleigh, organizers announced Tuesday that all outdoor concerts and street vendors will be moved indoors. The Main Stage performances planned for Red Hat Amphitheater are moving to Raleigh Memorial Auditorium at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. All performances at the five free Street Stages and all the scheduled vendors are moving to the Raleigh Convention Center.

Celebrate Fuquay-Varina Festival: Originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1, the festival has been canceled with no plans to reschedule. The Chairmen of the Board Concert will still take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29.

Wake Forest Community Celebration of the Arts: Wake Forest announced on Facebook that the Celebration of the Arts will be canceled. Organizers could not find a day to reschedule but announced next year’s festival will take place on Oct. 7, 2023.

Carolina TarWheels BikeFest: Due to poor road conditions, the annual TarWheels BikeFest and bike ride will be canceled. There are no plans to reschedule. There are no refunds, but ticket holders will receive admission to next year’s event.

Western Wake Farmers’ Market: On Thursday, Morrisville officials announced that the farmers’ market will not be held this weekend.

Garner Fireman’s Festival: Outdoor activities for the Firemen’s Festival, including the parade, have been canceled. The station will hold a modified BBQ plate sale from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Over the Edge benefiting the Special Olympics: On Thursday afternoon, organizers for the charitable rappelling event in downtown Raleigh announced they will postponing until Dec. 3. All currently registered to rappel the Wells Fargo Capitol Center will be automatically registered for the new date.

Live Action with Carolina Basketball: UNC has announced that the unofficial start of Tar Heel basketball, originally scheduled for Friday, will be postponed until Oct. 7. UNC football, swimming and volleyball are still expected to take place as planned.

Oakwood Cemetery Plays: Burning Coal Theatre has canceled its Friday performance but is adding a 4 p.m. show on Sunday. Those who want to switch tickets an call 919-834-4001.

The Death Cab for Cutie concert scheduled Oct. 3 at Red Hat Amphitheater has been moved to Coastal Credit Union Music Park Raleigh. Tickets purchased for Red Hat Amphitheater will be honored at Coastal Credit Union Music Park night of show – no exchange necessary. https://bit.ly/DeathCabRAL22

Triangle Oktoberfest at Booth Amphitheatre will be Saturday only. Tickets for Friday can be used Saturday, and parking will be free.



Events still scheduled

Carrboro Music Festival: The 25th annual Carrboro Music Festival is expected to take the stage this Sunday rain or shine, The News & Observer reported on Tuesday.

N.C. State @ Clemson: The football face-off between Clemson and N.C. State is still expected to take place Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Clemson’s home stadium.

N.C. State University classes will remain in session, and the university will be open with reduced operations starting Thursday at 11 p.m through Saturday, the university said Thursday afternoon. Faculty will have the option to hold classes remotely.

UNC-Chapel Hill classes will operate on a regular schedule. Faculty may adjust class schedules and arrange makeup work.
