South Korean President Yoon vows to 'fight to the end', defying impeachment threat
SEOUL (Reuters) -South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said on Thursday he would "fight to the end" as his own political party shifted closer to voting with the opposition to impeach him over his short-lived martial law order that threw the U.S. ally into turmoil. In a lengthy televised address, he alleged that North Korea had hacked South Korea's election commission, casting doubt on his party's landslide election defeat in April. Yoon, whose country has Asia's fourth-largest economy, hopes political allies will rally to support him but this appeared less likely after his address.

Germany's MVV halves profit in 2023/24, proposes 9% dividend hike
FRANKFURT (Reuters) -German regional utility MVV Energie on Thursday reported a halving of annual profit but proposed a dividend increase of 9% for its 2024 fiscal year ended in September. MVV has long had certified targets to transition to low-carbon heat as well as electricity-, waste- and biomass-based energy products for industry and household customers, ahead of some bigger sector peers. "The exceptional financial year 2023 was characterised by non-repeatable one-off effects, in particular by disposal proceeds from asset sales and by an exceptional wholesale price-related development," CEO Georg Mueller said.

UniCredit says core capital threshold for 2025 rises to 10.3% from 10%
UniCredit, Italy's second largest bank, said on Wednesday its bank-specific core capital requirement had risen to 10.27% for 2025, up from the 10.03% minimum level set for 2024. Earlier on Wednesday, Italy's largest lender Intesa Sanpaolo said its minimum core capital requirement for 2025 had been set at 9.89%, up from the previous 9.32%, with a "Systemic Risk Buffer" (SyRB) and "Countercyclical Capital Buffer" (CCyB) accounting for the increase. In UniCredit's case the main difference from requirements supervisors set at the end of 2023 for the current year is the SyRB, which UniCredit said stood at 0.2% compared with 0.03% last year.

RSF says Israel responsible for one-third of journalist deaths in 2024
