European Super League: Chelsea FC fans planning protest at Stamford Bridge before Brighton match

Chelsea fans plan to protest against the European Super League at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

Supporters have used social media to mobilise and will make their voices heard ahead of the game against Brighton.

It comes after Thomas Tuchel admitted he understood frustration over the lack of communication following Chelsea’s announcement they will be part of a breakaway competition along with 11 other major clubs.

As yet no one from Chelsea’s hierarchy has spoken publicly about the hugely controversial plans that have received widespread condemnation.

Tuchel’s pre-match press conference for Brighton was cut short after being dominated by Super League debate.

He said: “I totally understand the emotion on this and you want more response from Chelsea. I can absolutely understand every single argument, but it has to be clear that I am not the guy for these questions. I am not part of the board or these decisions.

“I can understand that you want more answers to get the bigger picture, but I am clearly not the guy. I coach the team to get results on the pitch and tomorrow against Brighton. I can understand that this does not satisfy you.”

Tuchel was also questioned about the response of Chelsea fans after Sunday’s announcement.

Liverpool supporters have removed flags and banners from Anfield in protest against their club’s involvement in the Super League. Manchester United fans are deciding whether to follow suit.

But Tuchel’s press conference was ended as the club refused to take any further questions related to the breakaway league.

Chelsea supporters have voiced their fury on social media.

Fan group ‘We are the Shed’ tweeted: “Supporters will be heading to the Bridge tomorrow from 5.30 to make their voices heard in the absence of being inside the ground.

“This is not aimed at the team but the board. Take banners, take signs but remain socially distant & wear a face covering if you can.”
