EUROPE POWER-Prompt up on lower wind projections

FRANKFURT, Oct 7 (Reuters) - European prompt power prices firmed on Friday as predictions for upcoming wind speeds in main producer Germany were lower than what had been expected in the middle of the week.

French baseload power for Monday was at 313 euros ($306.77) a megawatt hour (MWh) at 1010 GMT, 16.7% up from the price paid for Friday delivery.

The equivalent German contract was untraded in a 170-250 euros range compared with Friday delivery's close at 157 euros.

Daily wind power output in Germany was forecast to remain little changed from Friday at 15.1 gigawatts (GW) next Monday, but to fall to below 10 GW and to 5 GW respectively on the two following mid-week days, Refinitiv Eikon data showed.

French nuclear availability was unchanged at 47% of available capacity.

On the demand side, power usage in France was seen up 1.7 GW from Friday's level next Monday to 47.1 GW, the data showed, while Germany's consumption on that day should be flat at 57.2 GW.

Looking at mid-term weather patterns, a fresh seasonal outlook from Refinitiv for the region on Thursday said that October should continue with above normal rain and possibly windy conditions in the second half.

November could bring lower wind speeds, and near or only slightly above normal rain and temperatures, the report said.

December and January could see some colder than normal periods, it said.

Power forward prices along the curve rose with stronger oil following this week's OPEC+ meeting that agreed output cuts. However, discussions about energy market reforms at European Union level with a view to curbing price surges and siphoning off excessive profits curbed the gains.

German year-ahead baseload power rose 0.5% to 430 euros/MWh. The equivalent French position was untraded after closing at 526.4 euros.

European CO2 allowances for December 2022 expiry shed 0.7% to 68.49 euros a tonne. ($1 = 1.0203 euros) (Reporting by Vera Eckert; Editing by Emelia Sithole-Matarise)
