England were left to rue a John Stones header that hit the woodwork after just 11 minutes as they were held to a goalless draw against Scotland.
A dour display at Wembley does the Three Lions no harm, but raises questions over their talisman Harry Kane, who endured another frustrating night as he failed to make any impact for the second game in succession at these Euros.
Kane was substituted after 74 minutes as Gareth Southgate went in search of a winner that never looked likely to come.
And even after introducing fan-favourite Jack Grealish, the home team were too easily repelled by Scotland team that were rarely stretched over 90 minutes and came so close to finding a winner themselves, with Billy Gilmour impressive in midfield.
The result leaves England second behind the Czech Republic in Group D heading into the final round of fixtures, while Scotland will need to beat Croatia in their last remaining match to stand a chance of reaching the last-16.
