Public asked to name next Archbishop of Canterbury after Justin Welby resignation
The public is being given the chance to suggest who should be the next Archbishop of Canterbury, replacing Justin Welby, who resigned after a report found the Church of England covered up sexual abuse by a barrister. The independent investigation, published in November, concluded he might have been brought to justice had Mr Welby formally reported it to police a decade ago. Stephen Cottrell, the Archbishop of York, has temporarily taken over from the Archbishop of Canterbury, who stepped down in January.

22 states sue New York, alleging environmental fund is unconstitutional
Twenty-two states sued New York on Thursday, contending that a new law forcing a small group of major energy producers to pay $75 billion into a fund to cover climate change damage is unconstitutional. According to a statement, West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey led the coalition of states against New York's Climate Change Superfund Act, which requires payments for damage allegedly done from 2000 to 2018. "This lawsuit is to ensure that these misguided policies, being forced from one state onto the entire nation, will not lead America into the doldrums of an energy crisis, allowing China, India and Russia to overtake our energy independence,” McCuskey said in a release.

Trump administration plans to slash all but a fraction of USAID jobs, officials say
The Trump administration presented a plan Thursday to dramatically cut staffing worldwide for U.S. aid projects as part of its dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development, leaving fewer than 300 workers out of thousands. Late Thursday, federal workers associations filed suit asking a federal court to stop the shutdown, arguing that President Donald Trump lacks the authority to shut down an agency enshrined in congressional legislation. Two current USAID employees and one former senior USAID official told The Associated Press of the administration's plan, presented to remaining senior officials of the agency Thursday.
