Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Nicola King has infuriated her young son Carl by telling a lie in Emmerdale.

Viewers have seen that Nicola isn't coping after being attacked by a gang of girls earlier this month. Her one trip outside the house ended in a car crash with David Metcalfe — and he has since claimed he has a neck injury for the insurance money.

Nicola has been determined to stay in her house at all times since then, having used an excuse that son Carl was feeling a bit poorly during Wednesday's (June 29) episode.

It was clear that Carl wasn't actually very sick, but Nicola tried to convince him he needed to stay at home as long as possible to get better.

Later, Nicola broke the news to Bernice that she wouldn't be attending their presentation tomorrow — supposedly because Carl was at home ill.

Carl came down the stairs at that very moment to corroborate to Bernice that he is "really, really sick", leaving Bernice unsettled about the whole situation.

"Carl needs his mum at a time like this," Nicola insisted. "What sort of mother would I be if I left him?"

After Bernice left, Carl angrily confronted his mum with the fact he's been feeling better and no longer wanted to be out of school.

"Why did you make me tell a lie to Auntie Bernice?" Carl asked his mum.

Nervous Nicola insisted he hadn't lied — but grew flustered as he questioned why she was trying to convince him that he was sick. Nicole angrily wrecked all the decorations on her mantle, then ordered Carl not to tell his father.

"I hate you, you're horrible," Carl said while running off.

Nicola broke down into tears over the downward spiral she was experiencing. Will Nicola open up over what's truly wrong?
