Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Nicola King has lashed out in the devastating aftermath of her attack in Emmerdale.

Over the last few weeks, Nicola has grown scared of leaving the house because she worries the gang of girls who'd attacked her may strike again.

Thursday's (June 30) double bill saw this problem escalate when Nicola once again kept Carl home sick as a way to make sure she wouldn't have to leave the house.

Carl was tired of having to stay home, so he stole his mum's phone and ran outside. At the same time, Laurel told Bernice she was going around to check on Nicola.

"I'm beginning to think something's wrong," she explained.

Nicola was panicking over having to find Carl outside when she heard keys opening her front door. Having a flashback to the girls who'd attacked her, Nicola whacked Laurel over the head with a rolling pin once she opened the door.

Laurel called Bernice to help her try to coax Nicola into opening the door under the guise that they would take over watching Carl and Dotty.

"I'll tell you what, she hasn't been right since the attack," Laurel confided in Bernice. "Maybe some kind of PTSD or something, I don't know."

The two were finally able to get in through the back door to find Nicola huddled in terror with the rolling pin. Bernice gently talked down Nicola into handing over the improvised weapon.

"You're safe now. We're going to look after you," Bernice promised.

Nicola confided in her friends that she's "not been right" since the attack, admitting she couldn't make sense of it all and was now terrified all the time.

"I feel like a prisoner in my own home," Nicola explained.

Bernice offered to stay with Nicola until Jimmy got back, while Laurel would watch the kids. Nicola then lashed out at her friends, telling them they should have been the ones attacked rather than her.

"It's your fault I was attacked in the first place, both of you, and your stupid Girls Day Out," Nicola insisted. "Where were you when I was being attacked? All over some sleazy blokes while I was lying dead in the gutter."

Nicola screamed at Laurel and Bernice to get out while Carl and Dotty stood by watching in fear. When Bernice resisted, Nicola grabbed her and forced her out the door.

Will Nicola finally realise she needs help?
