Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Jacob Gallagher has called off his exit plan in Emmerdale.

The teen has been reeling following his mum Leyla Harding's cocaine-induced heart attack last week. While Leyla was lucky to survive, Jacob and the rest of her family are grappling with how they failed to recognise she was using drugs.

Before this family trauma, Jacob had been busy making final preparations to move away from the village — at least, for now — to attend university.

Things remained frosty between Leyla and Liam in Monday's (August 8) episode, so Jacob thought his mum would need his support more than ever.

He also admitted to Victoria that he was doubting his dreams of becoming a doctor after seeing his mum admitted to hospital after an overdose.

"Everything eventually just ends in disaster and disappointment. We both know that," he told Victoria. "If not this, it'll be something else. I'm probably just jacking in uni now before it really hurts."

Victoria tried to convince Jacob not to give up on his dreams, but the teen insisted he was only being "honest" about his prospects for the future.

Meanwhile, Suzy and Cain had devised a plan to keep drug dealer Callum away from Leyla by returning the stash she'd been hiding for him with a warning to stay out of Emmerdale.

Liam relayed the news to Leyla: "Your drug dealer friend has got his bag back. He's not going to be bothering you again."

He revealed he'd also paid off Leyla's debt to Callum, yet he stormed out when Leyla questioned whether Suzy and Cain gave all of the drugs back to the dealer.

"I don't know who you are anymore," a disappointed Liam told her.

Leyla was left reeling by Liam's suggestion that their marriage was "cursed"...

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
