Emmerdale's Ethan Anderson suspended after Suni incident

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Ethan Anderson has faced suspension at work in Emmerdale.

Earlier this week, Ethan rushed to the scene alongside Gabby Thomas when they spotted Suni and Nicky being assaulted in a homophobic hate crime.

With the recent confirmation that Ethan would also have some problems at work, fans got some more insight on why he's in trouble in Friday's (December 1) episode.

The latest instalment started on a shocking note with Ethan behind bars, demanding his jailers let him know the time of day.

When the guard finally let him out to meet his solicitor, Ethan demanded to know why he was being jailed since he'd intervened to stop an assault.

In the interrogation room, Ethan tried to dispel the detective's claim that he'd been carrying a knife at the time of the incident.

Ethan poked holes in the detective's theories that he was behind the assault, revealing at last one other bystander heard homophobic attacker Mike tell his friends what happened.

He pointed out the flaws in the police's accusation: "A group of white lads harass and assault two young men. And yet, by the words of a doorman who wasn't even there and an accusation by one of the attackers, the only man arrested is a Black man. A gay Black man.

"Aren't you embarrassed?"

Ethan was ultimately released pending further investigation, but he was surprised when grandmother Claudette criticised him for intervening in a hate crime.

"Sometimes, intervening isn't the best thing," she told him.

Ethan stood up for himself, explaining that the only reason Suni wasn't hurt even worse was because he jumped in. Claudette replied that she wasn't there so she couldn't speak to the events.

"I was [there], and I'm telling you, that's what happened," Ethan insisted.

While there was some good news with Suni waking up at the hospital, Ethan got a call from his work to tell him he was being suspended pending a review.

Will Ethan lose his job over his heroism?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
