Emmerdale's Charley Webb shares that her mum has Alzheimer's in emotional message

Emmerdale alumni Charley Webb has announced the sad news that her mother has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

The actress, who played Debbie Dingle on the ITV shop until 2021, shared a touching social media post talking about how her mother was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease almost a decade ago.

Charley's brother Jamie Lomas, who plays Warren Fox on Hollyoaks, also reflected on their mum's diagnosis on social media on Sunday (March 19), which was Mother's Day in the UK.

Alongside a photo of her mother helping with her wedding dress, Charley wrote: "In 2015, our lovely Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She was 64. This last 8 years have been a learning curve, a grieving process and something all of her children have struggled with.

"Every day is a challenge and brings difficulties which are really hard to come to terms with. 8 years later we finally feel ready to talk about it and the goal is to raise as much money and awareness as possible, to be able to help everyone that may face this in the future.

"Even though she's still here, I miss her. Always my Queen, HM'sD, love you Mama."

Jamie shared a collage of photos of himself with his mum, writing: "In 2015 our beautiful mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and she was only 64.

"In 2017 I was lucky enough to be asked to go in the jungle and do I'm a Celebrity and I wanted to take my mum with me as my guest as I wanted us to have that amazing memory together and the ITV staff were absolutely brilliant.

"The last 8 years has been really tough for us as a family. Everyday brings its difficulties which is really hard to come to terms with and my heart goes out to anyone who has to deal with this awful illness... I know you're still here but I miss you mum."

The comments on both actors' posts were full of people sharing their own stories of having family members living with Alzheimer's or dementia, which is what the former can lead to in some circumstances.

Jamie added that the family's aim is to "finally talk about this now openly and our goal is to try and raise as much awareness and money to try and tackle and help anyone that will have to face this in the future".
