Like many, Emma Watson filled her time during lockdown by learning a new skill.

The actress, usually known for her work in front of the camera (famously starring in the Harry Potter franchise, as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and more recently appearing in Little Women), shared how she spent her quarantined days learning about how it all works on the other side of the lens.

Taking to Instagram, the star told her followers about her experience of “getting behind the camera” while we were all told to stay at home during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, describing it as the most "empowering thing" she learned during that time.

"Getting behind the camera and learning how it works is about the most empowering thing I've learned in lockdown," she wrote. "As a young woman, I always thought the most glamorous and exciting thing would be to be someone's 'muse'; and of course as women, we are inspiring... but wow it's something else to be able to tell your own story and other people's." She shared her words alongside images of herself holding a large professional camera.

Fellow actors commented on the post to show their support, including Reese Witherspoon who wrote: “Yes! I love this. Go E.”

Watson, known for her activism and long-standing advocacy for sustainability, recently returned to the red carpet for the Earthshot Prize ceremony, hosted by the Duke of Cambridge and the Royal Foundation.

For the occasion, she presented an award on the night wearing an upcycled gown designed and created by Harris Reed, who created the garment from former wedding dresses donated to Oxfam.

The royals also took the opportunity to share a sustainable message; Prince William wore an upcycled velvet jacket, while the Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear a lilac Alexander McQueen gown she's been seen before, rather than something new.
