Elsbeth’s Carrie Preston, EP Address Lingering The Good Wife Familial Connection — Plus, Watch Sneak Peek
Elsbeth’s titular lawyer may be on her own in New York City, but she’s not without ties that go back to The Good Wife.
In Carrie Preston’s second appearance as Elsbeth Tascioni on the aforementioned legal drama, the character briefly mentioned that she has a son (who taunts her with new computers). It’s a detail that the Elsbeth creative team hasn’t forgotten about.

“One of the first things I did was I went back and watched every episode [of The Good Wife] that Elsbeth ever appeared in and took notes on every bit of information that’s ever been mentioned,” Elsbeth showrunner Jonathan Tolins said during a virtual press panel.
“We did the math. So Teddy, which is what we have now named him, is in his twenties. So it’s not a custody question at this point… And yes, we will hear more about him and Elsbeth’s relationship with him as his mom,” continued Tolins, who also worked on The Good Wife’s other spinoff, Paramount+’s The Good Fight.
While Elsbeth never mentioned her child again during the subsequent 12 Good Wife episodes or the five Good Fight installments she appeared in, she now “talks about him quite a bit,” Preston tells TVLine.
Their relationship is a “positive” one, although “I think Elsbeth wants it to be maybe more than it is. He’s got his own life, so she’s trying not to meddle too much,” Preston adds.
As for whether Teddy will ever grace the show and meet up with his mom in New York City, “who knows, maybe we’ll never even see Teddy? You never saw Columbo’s wife!” Preston notes.
