Elk Grove roadway near Highway 99 back open after emergency railroad repairs

A stretch of Calvine Road near Elk Grove has reopened to traffic after being closed Thursday for emergency railroad repairs, transportation officials said.

Both directions of Calvine were shut down between Highway 99 and Elk Grove Florin Road while Union Pacific conducted emergency repairs on its railroad tracks, the Sacramento County Department of Transportation said in a news release around 11:45 a.m.

County officials initially said the closure was expected to last at least three hours, but in an update around 12:40 p.m. said all repairs were completed. Calvine Road is back open to traffic in both directions.

The Elk Grove Police Department at 8:30 a.m. tweeted that the railroad crossing arms were stuck and blocking eastbound traffic on Calvine Road, but that westbound lanes would remain open. Both directions are now closed, according to the county.

The railroad tracks intersect Calvine Road about a quarter-mile west of Elk Grove Florin Road.
