Our beauty bags are bursting at the seams, but that doesn't stop us from trialling different products - whether they're new releases, or longstanding favourites.

One in particular is Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant.

For years, friends, family members and colleagues have raved about the multi-purpose cream, (alongside other Elizabeth Arden items), so I put it to the test.

Why we rate it

I's always avoided the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant because I thought it was too heavy and sticky.

However, some years later, I've made a major U-turn. While I still find it sticky, it's been a hero skincare product of mine for the last few months, and there's nothing I don't use it on.

I smother the pink/red serum all over my face when it feels dry and needs hydrating in the day time, as well as overnight, I use it as a lip balm– I've even been applying it to my cracked knuckles to heal the impact of copious amounts of hand sanitiser.

The Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant has helped to give my cuticles some TLC, and it works on my very dry and brittle nails too.

Most recently, after getting a new post-lockdown ear piercing, I smothered it on to help heal and nourish the area, which was sensitive, but also drying out because of the saline solution - and so far, so good.

A light dab on an insect bite, and a burn - what a calamity I am, I know - and all was well.

Plus, it's been helping my make-up regime. On the rare occasions I've dressed up, applied some make-up and ventured out as restrictions eased, it has worked as an alternative to highlighter, and tamed down eyeshadow too, leaving it a light sheen while also helping the dusting of colour to stay in place.

Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant

The Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant is a hydrating gel, which has more than lived up to expectations of versatility.

The formula has stood the test of time, as it was first created in 1930, and over 90 years later is still a huge hit. The moisturiser is made from petrolatum, a BHA, and nourishing vitamin E, which make for a hydrating, long lasting and protective formula.

The Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant comes in different sizes, but the 50ml tube retails for £28, and lasts a very long time – a little goes a long way.

After being impressed by this moisturiser, I've started eyeballing the specific face moisturiser with SPF.

What the reviews say

Not only am I a fan of this cult skincare product, but fellow shoppers are too. Here's what others have to say:

  • "I cannot stress how much I am in love with this product. Anyone who is suffering from facial eczema like me, please give this a go!"

  • "I really like this, I use it mostly for my hands and my lips! I even got a burn and immediately applied this to it and the burning stopped pretty much instantly and it healed twice as fast as it normally would have."

  • "I have used 8 hour cream for so long I can't remember my first tube! It will always be in my bathroom, as it sorts out so many ailments. I use it every night to keep my lips smooth, and it's perfect for those cracked areas that just won't heal. It is very thick so a little goes a long way, and the tube lasts for a really long time."

  • "Best moisturiser for the skin I have ever used! Miraculous!"

  • "The Eight Hour® Cream Skin Protectant is great for a variety of needs. It works wonders on toenails and fingernails. It soothes chapped lips and sun-burned cheeks. It does it all!"
