El Dorado County man arrested in Amador County hit-and-run that killed 15-year-old

Authorities arrested an El Dorado County man suspected of driving away after hitting a 15-year-old boy with a vehicle Tuesday night in Amador County. The teen later died at a Sacramento hospital.

The hit-and-run involving a pedestrian was reported about 8:30 p.m. in the area of Highway 49 and Valley View Way in Sutter Creek. Initial information indicated that the teen and another person were crossing the road when the vehicle struck the boy, according to the Sutter Creek Police Department.

Police said the injured teen was “in grave condition” and taken to a Sacramento-area trauma medical center where he died. Late Thursday, the Amador Unified School District identified the teen as Dylan Yoacham, 15, an Amador High School sophomore.

“Dylan at 15 had touched so many lives with his amazing personality and laughter that he often shared with others,” the family said in creating a GoFundMe page to raise money for Dylan’s funeral expenses. “The family asks for continued prayers and some time to start processing this tragedy.”

As of Thursday morning, the page had raised $30,000 toward its goal.

Sutter Creek officers, with help from the CHP and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, found the suspected vehicle’s driver, later identified as 40-year-old Shingles Springs resident Matthew Galea, in El Dorado County.

Galea was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, police said. Galea was booked at the Amador County Jail. Officers were still investigating the cause of the collision.

Investigators asked anyone with additional information about this reported hit-and-run to call the Sutter Creek Police Department at 209-267-5646.
