Egeda, Secuoya Foundation Ally to Launch Iberseries Platino Industria

Adding to the signature events serving Spain, Portugal and Latin America’s fast expanding content industries, Spain’s Egeda and Secuoya Foundation are joining forces to launch a new festival and industry forum, the Iberseries Platino Industria.

Running Sept. 27-Oct. 1, the four-day event marks a powerful alliance between Madrid-based Egeda, the biggest rights collection society in the Spanish-speaking world, and the Secuoya Foundation, the non-profit promotion arm of Spain’s Secuoya Group, whose Madrid Content City hosts Netflix’s first European Production Hub in Madrid.

Secouya Studios, the company’s L.A. and Madrid-based production arm, confirmed a robust first slate of TV and film projects this January.

Merging Secuoya’s Iberseries Spanish-language TV festival, which soft launched online last year, and Egeda’s Platino Industria market, which also ran virtual seminars last year, the hybrid in-person and virtual event will feature world premieres of new or returning seasons of drama series from Latin America, Spain and Portugal. Also on the program are conference panels, workshops, pitching sessions, exhibition facilities and one-to-one-meetings.

A third strand, forming part of the Madrid-based United Nations’ World Tourism Organization (UNTWO) activities, will analyze synergies between the film and TV and tourist and education sectors.

The four-day Iberseries Platino Industria will kick off with a gala dinner on Sept. 27 commemorating World Tourism Day.

It will climax with the 8th Platino Awards, the most prominent film and TV prizes in Ibero-America, which take place over the first weekend of October.

Part consequence of the COVID-19 crisis, which encourages events to join forces, its organizers argued Thursday while announcing the event, the first Iberseries Platino Industria boasts large ambitions. It will bow as the “biggest international event in the Ibero-American audiovisual industry” and “a reference worldwide,” its creators said.

The location of Iberseries Platino Industria, which will impact on-site attendance, still has to be announced.

The launch of Iberseries Platino Industria reflects the growth of a sector that has become an economic driver of social, cultural and tourist impact in the region, the event’s organizers said Thursday.

The sector also serves two of the biggest language markets in the world, which has 840 million Spanish or Portuguese speakers, the organizers added.

For its first edition at least, Iberseries Platino Industria joins a packed 2021 event schedule, running near back-to-back after the San Sebastian Festival, which takes place Sept. 17-25 and world premieres top Spanish series and films from Movistar Plus, HBO Europe, Netflix and Amazon.

Conecta Fiction, a popular Europe-Latin America drama series co-production event, unspools Sept. 13-17 in Pamplona, Spain.
