EastEnders' Lola Pearce to get bad news in tumour story

EastEnders spoilers follow.

Lola Pearce will receive heartbreaking news as she and Ben Mitchell attempt to find an alternative treatment for her brain tumour.

In scenes set to air later this month, Lola and Jay visit Dr Cunningham to see if she's eligible to take part in a specialist clinical trial. However, the doctor tells the couple that it’s too soon to try this treatment route and it's unlikely to work.

Back at home, Ben is devastated to learn that the trip was a waste of time. Jay then tells Ben that they need to make sure this Christmas is extra special for Lola, as it may well be the last one they all have together.

Meanwhile, Lola is left feeling guilty after she snaps at Lexi. Determined to spend more quality time with her daughter, they begin plaiting each other's hair.

But Lexi is left horrified as her mother's hair falls out in handfuls, leaving the young mother devastated as she contemplates what really lies ahead. Later on, Lola raises the topic of hair loss with Jay, who sweetly promises that he'll love her no matter what.

When Lola later spots Denise Fox, she asks her former boss if she can come back to work as, despite her terminal prognosis, she's determined to continue living her life for as long as possible.

Speaking about the upcoming twist in her character's heartbreaking storyline, Lola actress Danielle Harold said it was "a crazy mix of emotions".

"Ben finds out some information about a treatment abroad, so it’s a bit of a crazy mix of emotions as to what this means, and what will happen," she said.

"Lola is very much of the mindset that 'I can beat this, and it can be cured'. This is the only positive news that she’s hearing and she’s warmed that Ben is willing to pay for it, too."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
