EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Tanya Franks has left the show after four years back in the role of Rainie Highway.

Rainie's final scenes aired in Wednesday's episode (June 29), which saw her bow out of Walford following the breakdown of her marriage to husband Stuart.

Digital Spy can now confirm that Tanya has left the show, with a BBC spokesperson saying: "We wish Tanya all the very best for the future."

As we already revealed, Rainie and Stuart's story has been taking centre stage this week, as they struggle to move forward following his decision to hand baby Roland back to Bernie.

Viewers know that Stuart (Ricky Champ) is suffering with postnatal depression and has struggled to bond with his son Roland.

With Stuart adamant that he can't be a parent to his son anymore, Rainie had to come to the difficult decision to raise Roland alone.

Bernie had agreed to hand Roland back to Rainie, on the condition she walked away from Stuart for good.

As Rainie pursued her plans to leave Walford, Karen made a last-ditch attempt to make Stuart see sense.

Although Karen informed Stuart of his wife's exit plan, he failed to turn up to stop her – and Rainie left the Square alone with Roland.

Tanya has played Rainie intermittently since 2007. Her latest stint begun in 2018, when she was reintroduced as part of Max Branning's return story.

Her biggest story since then has undoubtedly been her relationship, and subsequent marriage to Stuart, which has explored surrogacy, addiction, male breast cancer, and more recently, postnatal depression.

It was recently confirmed that Ricky Champ, who plays Stuart, is also being written out of the show – along with Dayle Hudson (Peter Beale), Barbara Smith (Dana Monroe) and Kelsey Calladine-Smith (Jada Lennox).

While there is currently no word on Stuart's exit story at the moment, his relationship with Rainie has very much been left up in the air.

Danielle Harold is also leaving her role as Lola, as part of a heartbreaking new story beginning later in the year.

EastEnders currently airs on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC Two. Early release box-set episodes are available to watch every Monday from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
