Dune 2's Josh Brolin praises Timotheé Chalamet’s journey as Paul Atreides
Dune: Part Two spoilers follow.
Dune 2 star Josh Brolin has praised co-star Timotheé Chalamet's journey as Paul Atreides throughout the series.
The two stars are both back in the upcoming sequel, which continues exiled Duke-turned-rebellious leader Paul's story as he and the Fremen face off against House Harkonnen.
Brolin, who plays mentor Gurney Halleck, has opened up to Digital Spy about building the relationship with Chalamet while making the movies, admitting that it wasn’t necessary as it "just existed".

"It was a strange parallel between knowing Timotheé when he was his most innocent during the beginning of Dune: Part One. I mean, really innocent," he explained.
"He had done a bunch of independent films and didn’t know what this world was, he felt the weight but he showed up. And he matured quickly. And he continues to mature.
"And I think he’s arrived, and then he hasn’t, and then I see him again, and he’s a different person. Every couple of months he is a different person, so I feel I’ve gone through a lot of things with him personally along with professionally."
Speaking further about Paul becoming more of an anti-hero figure than the hero many had hoped for, Brolin noted "the fact that he continues to confront himself".

"These obstacles, and then he has taken the poison, and then he starts seeing the visions, and then he has to deal with his mother, and then he has to deal with Chani," he continued.
"You get pushed back into regression with adolescent love, and that starts to take over your selves, and then you have to think in a bigger design.
"I just love the idea of constantly… Because I feel we go through it every day, he goes through in this kind of monumental way because it’s Dune and it’s a bigger story and you’re specifying certain things.
"But I think it’s something that everybody can identify with, which makes it a really fun movie to watch. And it also makes it a movie as profound as you want it to be. It’s entertaining, but then it’s also when you look inside it’s a humanly sensitive movie."

During the chat, Brolin also opened up about preparing for fight scenes, admitting that "prep is much more difficult when you’re a little bit older".
"I thought I was ready, but I wasn’t," he recalled. "Because I didn’t know he wanted to do that in one take, so a lot of prep went into it, a lot of rehearsal, a lot of conditioning.
"And we have an amazing stunt team, so when I got there I thought I was ready. It became very obvious very fast that I wasn’t quite there yet. But we got there."
Dune: Part Two is released in cinemas on March 1.
