Duchess Meghan makes cameo in first trailer for Prince Harry, Oprah's new mental health series

Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey urged viewers to ask for help when struggling with mental health in the first trailer for their upcoming mental health series, which also saw brief appearances from Harry's wife, Duchess Meghan, as well as singer Lady Gaga and actress Glenn Close.

"To make that decision to receive help is not a sign of weakness," Harry said Monday in the first official trailer for "The Me You Don't See," due Friday on Apple+. "In today's world, more than ever, it is a sign of strength. … The results of this year will be felt for decades. The kids, families, husbands, wives, everybody."

Winfrey and Prince Harry are co-creators and executive producers for the project that was announced in 2019. The series features high-profile guests and mental health experts, and it profiles people from across the globe "living with the challenges of mental health issues and addressing their emotional well-being," a release earlier this month said.

"What words have you heard around mental health?" Harry asks Winfrey in the trailer. "Crazy?"

"Lost it, can't keep it together," Winfrey added. "With that stigma of being labeled 'the other,' the telling of the story: Being able to say 'this is what happened to me' is crucial."

The participants in the series include Gaga, Close, San Antonio Spurs’ DeMar DeRozan, Phoenix Suns' Langston Galloway (formerly of the Detroit Pistons), Olympic boxer Virginia “Ginny” Fuchs, celebrity chef Rashad Armstead and more.

The new trailer includes clips of Lady Gaga (introduced by her given first name, Stefani) and Close, both shown tearing up while speaking on camera.

"I think it's our natural state to be connected," Close said, as a shot flashed of a smiling Harry and wife Meghan (wearing a t-shirt that reads "Raising the future") looking at a computer screen. Brief clips also showed a young Prince Harry at the 1997 funeral for his mother, Princess Diana, and later, a previously-seen clip of Meghan reading to their son Archie on his first birthday.

Harry and Meghan opened up about their own mental health struggles with Winfrey in their bombshell March interview.

"We are born into different lives, brought up in different environments, and as a result are exposed to different experiences. But our shared experience is that we are all human," said The Duke of Sussex in the release. "The majority of us carry some form of unresolved trauma, loss, or grief, which feels — and is — very personal. Yet the last year has shown us that we are all in this together, and my hope is that this series will show there is power in vulnerability, connection in empathy, and strength in honesty."

The series adds to Winfrey's ongoing efforts to promote wellness. In a virtual series with WW (formerly Weight Watchers), she tackled vulnerability and resiliency. Last year, just before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, she toured across nine cities offering a full-day of wellness conversations.
