Duchess Kate has officially started the hottest royal headwear trend

Kate may be the Duchess of Cambridge , but she is definitely the queen of setting sartorial trends – and this goes for royal headwear, too! When the duchess stepped out in July for the christening of her youngest child, Prince Louis, many took note of what she wore on her head, a headband-style fascinator with floral appliques by her favourite milliner, Jane Taylor. Now, we’re seeing this modern style popping up everywhere!

Most recently, Queen Máxima donned this style of hat while arriving for her two-day state visit to the UK with King Willem-Alexander . She topped off her look with a mauve headpiece that matched the rest of her elegant outfit. Another royal hopping on this trend is Princess Beatrice, who also went with this style of headwear to watch her sister, Princess Eugenie , say “I do” to Jack Brooksbank. The 30-year-old’s violet-and-blue hat went perfectly with her indigo blue bridesmaid’s outfit.

Not a detail goes missed when the 36-year-old duchess is dressing for an occasion. She almost always pulls out her stylish Penelope Chilvers tassel boots for casual occasions and looks no further than her favourite coatdresses for more formal engagements. And despite her traditional sense of style, as the Royal Family generally expects within reason, Kate always finds ways to add a modern touch to her wardrobe – and other royals are clearly inspired!
