The Duchess of Cambridge just re-wore a festive ensemble for a special cause.
Kate was joined by her husband, Prince William, for a joint video message to celebrate the Celtic holiday Burns Night with frontline workers from NHS Tayside in Dundee, Scotland. For the recorded message, the duchess wore a red tartan-printed blouse and skirt set by Emilia Wickstead, which she paired with a contrasting Peter Pan–style collar and dangling pearl earrings. She left her hair sleek, straight, and parted to the side.
As often is the case with the duchess' royal wardrobe, Kate has worn this vibrant plaid number before, albeit separately. Back in 2018, she wore the skirt with a black cardigan and knee-high suede boots while attending a Christmas party for military families. She then wore the matching top while attending a holiday celebration at Buckingham Palace a year later.
Burns Night celebrates the life and work of Scottish poet Robert Burns, who has written many of the country's most beloved poems. Traditionally, suppers are held on or near the poet's birthday, 25 January, though they can also be held at any other time of the year.
"We know Burns Night is a special evening for Scots around the world—a time to come together to eat, drink and to celebrate the life and work of Robert Burns," said William in the clip.
"Sadly this year is a little different," added Kate. "And for many of you working on the front line, tonight will be a very different occasion, as you work tirelessly through this pandemic to protect the most vulnerable in our society."
The Cambridges also shared that they provided the hospital workers with a traditional Haggis dinner for their hard work combatting the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. Those who enjoyed the meal included medical and nursing staff, as well as a radiographer, physiotherapist, domestic assistant, and renal technologist. In addition to the special meal, 200 food boxes from a local family business were shared with additional hospital staff.
"Our staff have now been at the frontline in our response to Covid-19 for more than 300 days and their dedication has been truly awe-inspiring," said Grant Archibald, NHS Tayside chief executive. "It means so much to all of our teams across Angus, Dundee and Perth and Kinross to receive this special message of appreciation today which underlines the ongoing, extraordinary efforts of Team Tayside."
