Yahoo Movies Dua Lipa called DaBaby out for his homophobic comments
Singer Dua Lipa just called out rapper, DaBaby, with whom she has collaborated in the past, over his recent homophobic - and to be honest, just downright gross - remarks. After hearing the comments that DaBaby made about gay folk and those living with HIV, Dua took to social media to say that she was "surprised and horrified" by what the man she'd teamed up with on Levitating, one of her biggest hits, had said.
On her Instagram Stories, Dua told her 69 million followers, "I'm surprised and horrified at DaBaby's comments. I really don't recognise this as the person I worked with."
She added that she wanted her fans (and in particular her LGBTQ+ supporters) to know that she was in full support of them, too. "I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS."
DaBaby, who made the wholly unnecessary slurs during his performance at the Rolling Loud festival in Miami, is reported to have shouted out to the crowd, "If you didn't show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that'll make you die in two or three weeks, put your cellphone light in the air."
Following that, DaBaby also spouted entirely false claims that HIV will "make you die in two or three weeks". In reality, medication has been enabling those who are HIV positive to live long and healthy lives.
"HIV treatment works by reducing the amount of virus in the blood to undetectable levels, which protects the immune system from damage," Debbie Laycock, head of policy at HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust, previously told Cosmopolitan. "This also means, because the amount of virus in the body is so low, that HIV can not be passed on – with or without a condom."
The rapper also made vile comments about men who sleep with other men, saying on stage, "Fellas, if you ain't suck a n****** d*** in the parking lot, put your cellphone lights in the air. Keep it f****** real."
Quite disappointingly, DaBaby's comments were supported by fellow rapper T.I. (yes, the same man who forced his daughter to undergo a 'virginity test' by a gynaecologist), who said that if artists like Lil Nas X (an openly proud gay man, who regularly creates music about his sexual orientation) are able to speak out, that DaBaby should be allowed to do the same.
"For instance, the Lil Nas X shit. The performances and video, man I got a lot of respect for bruh because he had the courage to live his truth, but that shit ain’t for me," T.I. said. "Just can’t look at it… And I don’t want my children seeing it, either."
He later expanded on his comment by adding, "If you have a Lil Nas X video, and him living his truth, you gone damn sure have people like DaBaby who are going to speak they truth. There ain’t nothing wrong with none of that. It ain’t got to be no hate, it’s all honesty."

DaBaby has since taken to Twitter to address his rant on stage, saying, "I tell fans to put a cellphone light in the air y’all start a million man March. I told you y’all digested that wrong but I ain’t gone lie I’m impressed. Now show this same amount of support when a racist cop kill one of our black ass… YA NOT."
He continued, "Anybody who done ever been effected by AIDS/HIV y’all got the right to be upset, what I said was insensitive even though I have no intentions on offending anybody. So my apologies. But the LGBT community... I ain’t trippin on y’all, do you. y’all business is y’all business."
