Driver killed in suspected DUI crash on Tully Road in Modesto ID’d by coroner’s office
The man killed in a quick succession of crashes Saturday afternoon in Modesto has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Jose Ceja, 37, of Riverbank.
The first crash was just after 5 p.m. at the intersection of Tully Road and Briggsmore Avenue, according to the Police Department.
The investigation found that Ceja, driving a GMC Yukon east on Briggsmore, struck a vehicle at Tully and then went south on Tully Road and hit a second vehicle. As a result of the second crash, he lost control of the Yukon, which overturned.
Ceja was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital but did not survive.
A Fire Department incident summary indicates crews were dispatched at about 5:20 p.m. to the location of the second collision, in the area of Tully and Oakwood Drive, just south of Orangeburg Avenue.
There were no passengers in the Yukon, and only minor injuries were reported by two other involved parties. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor, police said.
