Driver crashes into boba shop and pins customer in Washington state, fire officials say

A woman accidentally drove her gold Ford sedan into and through Puyallup’s Melody Boba House Monday afternoon, injuring one customer in the process.

According to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, a gold Ford sedan was at a standstill in a South Hill parking lot near the 3800 block of South Meridian. Around 2:30 p.m., the driver’s foot accidentally shifted from the brake to the gas pedal. The sedan accelerated over a sidewalk, through two of the boba shop’s glass windows, and into the store’s main seating area.

In a phone call with The News Tribune, Central Pierce assistant chief of prevention and education Kevin Berdan said that in the aftermath of the accident, a store customer was pinned between the counter and the sedan. Bystanders were able to remove the customer from the wreckage, and first responders transported her to a trauma center when they arrived. She is now in stable condition, according to Berdan.

While the crash appears to have caused extensive damage to Melody Boba House, Berdan said that Central Pierce determined the building was structurally stable. After turning off all the utilities, first responders turned the building over to the Puyallup city building inspector.
