Dragon's Den is set to introduce its youngest ever investor in series 19.

The current instalment, which is in the middle of its run, features Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Touker Suleyman, Sara Davies and Tej Lalvani. Following news that he has quit the long-running show, however, the latter will be replaced by businessman and best-selling author Steven Bartlett.

In recent years, the 28-year-old has earned several accolades including Forbes 30 under 30 and the Entrepreneur Rising Star at the Black British Business Awards, having founded social media marketing agency The Social Chain from his bedroom in Manchester six years ago.

At 27, he took his company public, with a current market valuation of over £300m.

Looking ahead to filming, which is scheduled to start some time in the summer, Bartlett said in a statement: "I've been watching Dragons' Den since I was 12 years old – it was my first window into the real world of business and investing.

It's a tremendous honour to join the Den, hopefully representing a new generation of entrepreneurs, inspiring young and specifically under-represented entrepreneurs to follow in my footsteps."

"As well as being our youngest ever Dragon, Steven's unique approach to business will bring a whole new dynamic to the Den," Sarah Clay, the BBC's Commissioning Editor of Entertainment, added.

"He brings a wealth of experience from the social media, technological and brand building worlds. I'm so excited to see him in the next series."

Dragon's Den airs on Thursdays at 8pm BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
