Dozens Arrested on Second Day of Anti-Lockdown Protest in Melbourne

Melbourne police made at least 44 arrests on September 21 during a second day of chaotic protests in the city that have followed the shutdown of Victoria’s construction sector.

Thousands opposing lockdowns and vaccine mandates marched through the city in high-vis vests for several hours, blocking roads and the West Gate Bridge. Protesters chanted “Free Victoria,” among other slogans, threw objects at police, and lit flares. Videos on social media showed police vehicles being attacked.

Hundreds of riot police were present, and used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowds, local media said.
